erik was born in russia as an only child to an abusive mother and an emotionally distant father . both parents were forced to work long hours at grueling jobs , barely earning enough money to put food on the table . when she wasn’t working , his mother would constantly berate him , telling him that he was a horrible child , he wasn’t good enough , that she will never love him , and that she regretted having him in the first place . whenever erik would misbehave or mess up , his mother would repeatedly hit him . his father , who knew about the abuse , never did anything to stop her . he never provided any sort of emotional connection or support , being physically present but emotionally distant .growing up poor , erik went to public schools . he was never bullied and was generally well liked , but the people around him would talk about his bruises , which his mother had tried to disguise with makeup and bandages .
his mother criticized almost everything her son did , but was particularly obsessed with his grades . she was very concerned with appearances and wanted to seem like the perfect mother ; he could get nothing less than straight a’s .one day , erik’s report card showed he received b + in math instead of an a . his mother screamed at him , saying “ next time , if you get anything less than an a , don’t even bother coming home “ . from then on , erik received only 2 more b+‘s , both in high school , and was consequently forced to sleep outside for each one .

erik is a man of hubris , possessing extreme pride and arrogance in himself .
as a child , erik was intensely curious about the world , wanting to learn about everything and anything . his favorite past time was reading books about history . despite this , he grew up with little self — worth , believing that he was the cause of all his parents’ misfortune . when he would get extremely upset , erik would pull at his hair , hit himself in the head , and break things .after joining the bratva , erik quickly learned how to pick — pocket , handle weapons , and carry out executions . he also became subject to abuse by his superiors . they would repeatedly beat him , cut him , and threaten to kill his parents if tried to run .erik now overcompensates with his excessiveness . upon meeting , he is sarcastic , sadistic , cocky , and self —assured . erik also has a tendency to be extremely cold towards people , which occurs primarily at work .
he's also very sexual and flirtatious , enjoying drinking , smoking , and hook — ups .
due to his lack of parental affection or presence as a child , he is also extremely possessive when he finds someone he likes ( platonically or romantically ) .he does not handle anger well and ends up throwing or breaking things , yelling , and cussing . he also has no reservations about harming others , regardless of who they are , going into a trance — like state , very similar to how he is at work .to those he values , erik is very affectionate and enjoys buying gifts , quality time , and physical touch . he is a genuinely kind person and rarely talks about himself , aside from the basics .he denies any sort of childhood issues or trauma .
